CPM-Congress spat over MP's performance
P. Mohanan alleged that Mr Mullapally had awarded works below Rs 5 lakh to 'his men' as there is no tendering in minor work.
Kozhikode: The CPM and the Congress have engaged in a spat over the performance of Mr Mullapally Ramachandran as Vadakara MP during ten years from 2009 to 2019. While the CPM has asked him to apologise to the voters for his failure to carry out any development work, the Congress has listed a series of achievements to his credit.
CPM district secretary P. Mohanan said that Mr Mullapally had only used the MP fund to buy computers for schools and develop village roads that come under an estimated cost of Rs 5 lakh.
He alleged that Mr Mullapally had awarded works below Rs 5 lakh to 'his men' as there is no tendering in minor work. "A development plan, 'Vision Vadakara 2025' was rolled out during his first tenure. But none of the promises made in the plan were implemented," he said.
Reacting to this, DCC president T. Sidique challenged the CPM to compare the performance of Mr Mullapally from 2014 to 2019 with that of P. Satheedevi, who won on the LDF ticket in 2004. "Comparing the Parliament attendance, the Bills presented and the number of questions raised by the both will give the real picture," Mr Sidique pointed out.
He claimed that the BSF centre at Nadapuram, CRPF centre at Peruvannamuzhi, IGNOU regional centre and cyclone shelter at Vadakara were the results of Mr Mullapally's efforts.
