Hyderabad: Rakesh Reddy, booked in the murder of NRI businessman Chigurupati Jayaram, was faced with another case on Saturday. Pragati Resorts owner G.B.K. Rao filed a complaint against Rakesh Reddy for alleged blackmail and extortion.

Mr Rao alleged that a couple of years ago Rakesh Reddy had blackmailed him and forced him to sign certain land documents to illegally acquire a piece of land that he owned.

The land was illegally transferred to the name of Rakesh Reddy’s close associate.

Mr Rao told Deccan Chronicle: “We have an industry in Ballari (Karnataka) where one of the employees committed financial fraud. The matter went to court but the employee, Babu Rao, never repaid us.”

At about the same time, Babu Rao sent Rakesh Reddy to blackmail us.

In 2012, Rakesh Reddy visited Pragati Resorts and forced me to sign a document to give land located in Moinabad and Shankarpally to him.”

Jubilee Hills police registered a case under IPC Section 448 (punishment for trespass) and Section 386 (Extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous injury).

Asked why he delayed filing a complaint, Mr Rao said: “Rakesh Reddy tortured my children and my wife in my absence. He lied that he knows the DGP and even TRS top brass. He created nuisance by blackmailing and even threatening to kill me.”
