Bengaluru: In the wake of the clutch of coronavirus positive cases reported from different cities in India this week, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) to its depots as per an advisory issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The corporation directed the depots to clean the buses including door handles, arm rests, etc with chlorine or alcohol-based disinfectants.

Last month BMTC initiated an internal communication campaign about the coronavirus, indicating its characteristics, known pathways of infection and recommended preventive measures.

The information was transmitted to BMTC employees through WhatsApp, email and pamphlets distributed at bus stations.

In order to amplify the campaign, the messages will be broadcast on LCD screens located at crowded locations.

The BMTC hygiene checklist

1. Practice good personal hygiene.
2. Avoid close contact with people suffering from acute respiratory infections.
3. Do not touch your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands.
4. Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough.
5. Use the mask if you suspect that you are sick or when helping sick people.
