Isro readies launch of hi-tech earth focus satellite
The launch is tentatively scheduled at 5.43 pm on March 5, subject to weather conditions.
VIJAYAWADA: The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) is gearing up to launch the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (Gslv-F10) with Geo Imaging Satellite (Gisat-1) from the Second Launch Pad of Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR in Sriharikota.
The launch is tentatively scheduled at 5.43 pm on March 5, subject to weather conditions. Weighing about 2,268 kg, Gisat-1 is the first state-of-the-art agile earth observation satellite which will be placed in a geosynchronous transfer orbit by the Gslv rocket.
Subsequently, the satellite will reach its final geostationary orbit about 36,000 km above the earth using its on board propulsion system.A four-metre diameter Ogive shaped pay-load fairing is being flown for the first time in this flight, which is the 14th of the Gslv.
Operating from geostationary orbit, Gisat-1 will facilitate near real time observation of the Indian sub-continent, under cloud free condition, at frequent intervals.
Registrations for witnessing launch of the miss-ion from Launch View Gallery in SHAR in Sriharikota have commenced. Further details can be accessed from-https://www.shar.gov.in/VSCREGISTRATION/
