Kakinada: There is likely to be a marginal decrease in the number of students appearing for the AP Eamcet-2018 examination in this year. In the last year, the number was 2,79,016 students for engineering, agriculture and medical tests. In the present year, the last date without fine  ended on March 29 but the students can apply with Rs 500 fine up to April 6.

However, there are 2,71,305 students enrolled for the examination till Monday evening. According to sources, it is quite probable  last year’s figures may not be reached  this year as nearly 9,000 students have to apply for the examination in coming 20 days with a fine of Rs 500 upto April 9,  fine of Rs 1,000 upto April 11,  fine of Rs 5,000 up to April 16 and fine of Rs 10,000 upto April 21. Sources said that many of the students will not show interest beyond '1,000 fine. So there may be only 1,000 or 2,000 students in  the remaining days. However, the Eamcet convener Saibabu said that the figure can be crossed  this year.

According to some corporate college principals, many of the Intermediate students are not interested in applying for Eamcet-2018 and also the corporate college managements also are not keen on sending them for Eamcet-2018 and other state level examinations. They are concentrating on preparing the students for IIIT, NIT and other higher grade technical institutions. This is also one of the reasons for decrease in the number of students in Eamcet examination in this year. Besides, many students want to choose medical courses  rather than engineering courses  this year.

Meanwhile, Mr Saibabu said that the students can down load their hall tickets from April 18. The engineering examination will be held on April 22, 23, 24 and 25 and agriculture and medical test will be held on April 25 and 26 from 10 am to 1 pm and 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm. He said that the students should appear for the examination only on the specified date and there will be no changes. He also said that if the students wrongly feed their details in the Eamcet online application, they can rectify it from April 8 to 12 by submitting the necessary certificates.
