Kozhikode responds: No strike for ploggers'

KOZHIKODE: The Team Clean Beach was active on the strike day also. They cleaned the beach, which had become dirty in the summer rains.  Apart from the cleaning, they also offered a lift on their bikes to those who get trapped at the railway station. “Everyday, we go for jogging or walking on the beachside, and after that, we voluntarily clean the area," said group member Arun Das, a businessman.

"When others, for example, players, who see us cleaning, they also join us sometimes.” On account of the trade union strike, the traffic was less on the road, and also on the beach, which made it easy for him and another group member P.V. Mohammed Sali, a public relations professional.  This time, though they tried to offer a lift for those trapped at the railway station, they said, there were not many passengers stranded.

The team is a collective of joggers who met on the beach and later decided to spend some time to clean up the city.  Currently, they have around 25 members and every day, a minimum of 10 people regularly clean the beach.  Most of them are professionals and some NRIs who work in clean surroundings abroad.
