Yechury alleges Congress is soft on Hindutva communalism
Mr. Yechury reeled out the failures of the Congress in mounting a consistent and principled opposition to the BJP and its allies over the years.
Kochi: The Congress has not shown the consistency exhibited by the left parties in combating the Hindutva communalism, says CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury. Addressing an election meeting of LDF candidate P.Rajeev in Kochi on Tuesday, Mr. Yechury reeled out the failures of the Congress in mounting a consistent and principled opposition to the BJP and its allies over the years.
The failure of the Congress to hold on to a firm opposition to Hinduvta forces is also seen in the decision of Rahul Gandhi to contest from Wayanad in Kerala, he said. The CPM and the other Left parties are clear that their primary agenda in the Lok Sabha election is the defeat of BJP and helping the formation of a secular government at the Centre, he said. What is the message of Congress, asked the CPM leader attacking the decision of the Congress to field Rahul in Wayanad. The Congress has the responsibility to tell the people of the state who are their primary enemy in the polls. The CPM leader also lambasted the Congress for its economic policies.
In a blistering attack against the BJP and Prime Minister Modi the CPM leader said the Modi regime posed a mortal threat to the secular and democratic fabric of the country. The government which has been a complete failure in every metrics of governance is trying to divert attention of the people by indulging in the most divisive manner. Ridiculing the claims of Mr. Modi on national security, Mr. Yechury said the BJP government remembered about the national security only on the eve of the elections.
