Cyclone Fani likely to hit 15 mandals in Andhra Pradesh
The storm would hit the district late on Thursday night, with windspeed rising to 150 kmph.
Srikakulam: Fani, the extremely severe cyclonic storm, has been predicted to affect five mandals — Itchapuram, Kaviti, Kanchili, Sompeta and Mandasa — mostly in Srikakulam district. Officials said that in all 15 mandals could take a hit.
The storm would hit the district late on Thursday night, with windspeed rising to 150 kmph. District collector J. Nivas and joint collector K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu have been monitoring the situation from the Command Control Centre, which is equipped with more than 25 screens that are linked to 380 cameras installed across the district.
Thursday morning began with rainfall. An average rainfall of 10 mm was registered across the district. Based on this, officials calculated that the four mandals expected to be the most affected would receive 25 cm rainfall. The other 11 would get about 10 cm rainfall.
Mr Nivas told Deccan Chronicle: “The impact of the cyclone will be seen from 8 pm on Thursday to 6 am on Friday, and the major part will begin at midnight. We have set up about 120 relief camps.”
