Hyderabad: JNTU puts its 250 colleges on notice

The JNTU had issued notices to managements of 250 colleges asking them as to why their affiliations be withdrawn for the deficiencies.

Hyderabad: With the admission season fast approaching, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) has intensified inspections of private engineering colleges affiliated to it and found that 250 colleges including engineering, pharmacy, postgraduate and  undergraduate colleges  lacking the required faculty and instruments in laboratories.

The JNTU had issued notices to managements of 250 colleges asking them as to why their affiliations be withdrawn for the deficiencies.

The JNTU has granted 10 days’ time from May 2 to the colleges to submit their explanations. It has also given them a chance rectify the anomalies and inform it by May 9.

During the inspections the university found that the deficiencies were mostly in the PG colleges. It also found that for the past four years many of the engineering colleges have been rectifying their deficiencies’ to ensure that they do not lose their affiliations.

JNTU officials stated that as many as 178 private engineering colleges in its jurisdiction have an intake of 85,000 seats. However, as many as 827 seats are likely to be reduced for the academic year 2019-20 when compared to last year.
