Hyderabad: Protests over abandoned mosque
The Maqbool family vacated the place without intimating anyone about the presence of abandon mosque behind the shops.
Hyderabad: Residents of Amberpet have protested against the demolition of a structure belonging to an abandoned mosque during the widening of the main road. The abandoned mosque was hidden by shops.
According to the local people, the GHMC had acquired the land for the road widening from one Maqbool and his family after paying a compensation of Rs 6 crore. The Maqbool family vacated the place without intimating anyone about the presence of abandon mosque behind the shops.
According to Mr Peer Muneer Ahmed Jaber of Youth Congress, the occupiers had concealed the mosque by constructing shops in front of it.
After GHMC workers demolished the structure, local people noticed that it looked like mosque and informed political and religious leaders.
MIM legislator Ahmed Pasha Quadri reached the spot along with his supporters and inquired the matter with the residents and officials.
He led the noon prayer on the debris of the demolished structure and asked the officials to take action against the person who received the compensation amount claiming to be the owner of the property.
MBT spokesperson Amjad-ullah Khan Khalid, Moulana Naseer and Majid Khan of the Darsgah Jihad-o-Shadath also reached the spot and lodged their protest.
Former corporator Farooq-uddin said he has lodged a complaint in the Amberpet Police Station.
