Four mini-stadiums in Warangal soon: Mayor

Warangal: Four mini-stadiums will be constructed in four assembly constituencies under the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) as per orders issued by minister for municipal administration and urban development department K.T. Rama Rao,  said city Mayor Gundu Sudharani here on Wednesday.

The mayor was speaking while inaugurating a free summer coaching camp organised by the GWMC at the Indoor Stadium in Hanamkonda. The mayor also played badminton on the occasion.

Sudharani said that after the formation of Telangana state, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has given priority to sports with an aim to promote health and fitness among the people.

Under the Pattana Pragathi programme, altogether 52 sports grounds were established across the municipal corporation limits and very soon four mini-stadiums will be constructed with an investment of Rs 5 crore for each in four assembly segments present under GWMC limits.

Minister K.T. Rama Rao will lay the foundation stone for the construction of two mini-stadiums, one at Hanamkonda and the other at Wardhannapet during his visit on May 5.

She appealed to the children and youth to utilise the opportunity and learn various sports and games during the one-month free summer coaching camp to win medals at the state, national and international levels.

Deputy mayor Rizwan Shameem Masood, corporator D.Vijaya Lakshmi, additional commissioners Ravinder, Rasheed, DFO Shankar Lingam, biologist Madhava Reddy and executive engineer Sanjay Kumar were among those present at the event.
