Pondicherry Central University students organise beef festival

Puducherry: Students of Pondicherry Central University organised a beef-eating protest in front of the university gate on Friday evening as part of a protest against restrictions on cattle trade which was brought by the Union Government.
Terming the government’s move ‘fascist’, students who were protesting under the banner of Ambedkar Students Union (ASA) accused the Central government of cutting at the very root of people’s right to eat what they wanted.
Students raised slogans against the BJP and dem-anded that the Centre roll back a controversial notification which bans the sale of cattle.
Tension prevailed in the atmosphere for a few minutes as the security officers denied permission for the media persons to enter the campus.
“From the morning itself, the security officers checked the bags of every student in front of the gate before entering the campus to ensure that they are not carrying beef,” said a Mass Communication student who participated in the protest.
Most of the students participated in the protest are PhD scholars as vacation is going on for other students, he added
At the same time, volunteers of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) along with the Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) on Friday held a demonstration near the Immaculate Conception Cathedral here to press the Centre to withdraw its order banning the sale of cow for beef.
