17 people killed, 11 injured in dust storm in Uttar Pradesh

Three deaths were reported from Sambhal, two each from Badaun, Muzaffarnagar and Meerut and one in Amroha.

Lucknow: Seventeen people were reportedly killed in dust storms that hit various districts of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. Eleven persons were injured in the dust storms.

According to a government spokesman, most of the deaths were caused by falling of trees and house collapses. Moradabad was worst hit by inclement weather and seven persons were reported dead in the district.

Three deaths were reported from Sambhal, two each from Badaun, Muzaffarnagar and Meerut and one in Amroha.

Among the injured, five persons were hurt in Amroha, three in Moradabad, two in Muzaffarnagar and one in Badaun.

Meanwhile, the government spokesman said that the state government has directed all district magistrates to distribute relief within 24 hours.

It may be recalled that more than 130 people have been killed in three major dust storms that hit Uttar Pradesh last month.
