Cancer survivors bond at Tiruchy get together
They said they have sent invites to 600 cancer survivors in and around Tiruchy, of whom 250 persons attended.
Tiruchy: As many as four organisations in Tiruchy working with cancer patients, including Onco Club, Comprehensive Cancer Care Network (CCCN), and Tiruchy Breast Cancer Society organised the 31st annual National Cancer Survivors day (a reunion day celebration) to raise awareness of cancer survivorship issues.
The team members of CCCN, Dr Arun Seshschalam, Dr G. Senthilkumar, Dr V. Balaji, and Dr L. Sofia Rajesh, told newsmen on the sidelines of celebrations that this annual meet was organised around the globe on the first Sunday in June, with the main objective of raising awareness on cancer.
They said they have sent invites to 600 cancer survivors in and around Tiruchy, of whom 250 persons attended. Awareness on these issues was increasing, they said.
They said a survivor is anyone living with a history of cancer from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of his /her life. There are nearly 32 million cancer survivors worldwide, they added.Pointing out that cancer prevalence was high in India and China as people in these two countries consumed more tobacco and obesity issues was of a higher order, the team members said one out of six deaths was due to cancer.
