Demand for AC coaches increase by 20% in South Central Railways

There is also an increase in revenue earnings by about 15.6 per cent in the case of AC 3 tier.

Hyderabad: The demand for AC coaches has been rising by around 20 percent every year in the South Central Railways (SCR), due to which the zone has brought in around 46 additional AC coaches as well in the last couple of years.

According to an analysis pertaining to AC accommodation in trains, the South Central Railways has shown an exponential growth of around 15 per cent in passenger traffic who are opting for AC 3 tier travel while in the case of AC chair car, the surge is around 20% each year. There is also an increase in revenue earnings by about 15.6 per cent in the case of AC 3 tier, and the increase is a huge 26 per cent in the case of AC chair car during 2018-19 as compared to the previous year, as per official records of the SCR.

South Central Railway officials said, “With average temperatures increasing all around and summers becoming very hot, we are creating a concrete action plan to cater to the requirements of rail users with regard to air conditioned travel options. This initiative simultaneously ensures that non air conditioned class options remain available.”
