Hyderabad: 3 of a family, including boy, drown in quarry

They went near the quarry to wash clothes when they drowned, said the police who registered a case of suspicious death for the probe.

Hyderabad: A 10-year-old boy, his mother and a relative drowned and died in a quarry at Balaiah Nagar in Jagadgirigutta on Sunday morning. The trio, natives of Yadgir district in Karnataka, came to the city to attend a house warming ceremony of their relative at Balaiahnagar in Jagadgirigutta.

They went near the quarry to wash clothes when they drowned, said the police who registered a case of suspicious death for the probe.

According to Jagadgirigutta police, the victims were K. Anitha, 30, and her son K. Yashwanth and their relative K. Ayamma, 65. Their families sold brooms for a living.

At about 11 am on Sunday, the trio along with another boy Sunil went to a quarry filled with water to wash clothes. While the women were busy, Yashwanth stepped into the water and drowned.

“The boy’s mother Anitha on seeing him drowning jumped into the waters, slipped and entered the deepest end. Ayamma who went in rescue her also drowned,” said police.

He said that Sunil rushed back home and informed his relatives who called the police. With the help of professional swimmers, the bodies were recovered and handed over their family members after autopsy.
