Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to seek the help of 100 engineers to scrutinise applications under the Building Regularisation Scheme (BRS). The civic body had decided to impart training and measures to identify unauthorised structures during physical inspections.

According to sources in the corporation, the High Court has directed the GHMC to scrutinise as many as 1.21 lakh BRS applications. Sources said that the High Court, in its orders, stated that the GHMC was not to regularise the unauthorised constructions but identify the number of illegal structures which do not fall in the parameters prescribed under the BRS.

As per the directions, the corporation official has to make field level inspections in order to certify the structure as illegal as per the GHMC Act, prior to its demolition. Despite the court’s direction the corporation has not made a single visit to identify illegal structures for which applications were made under the BRS.

Currently, GHMC has decided to seek the help of 100 engineers who were recruited on outsourcing basis to conduct physical inspections. A senior official said that data collected from the National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA) and the Centre for Good Governance (CGG) would be provided to the staff along with the application and photographs of the building. He said that they would submit the same to the corporation and upload in the CGG severs. The official said that training will be given to them about the verification of unauthorised structures.
