CM, political parties compliment police for cracking Swathi case

J. Jayalalithaa on Saturday lauded the police for cracking Swathi murder case and speedily arresting the culprit.

CHENNAI: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Saturday lauded the police for cracking Swathi murder case and speedily arresting the culprit, using technology and through scientific investigation in the absence of direct evidence. Calling the commissioner of police on phone, the Chief Minister said “Tamil Nadu police is a pioneer in speedily cracking crimes and bringing the culprits to book. The police had speedily investigated the case and arrested the culprit in the case (Swathi murder) which was a great challenge to the police”, she said. Through this, Tamil Nadu police had proved once again that it is first and the best force, she said.

Other political leaders too appreciated police for arresting the murderer of the techie and appealed to the department to take steps for preventing recurrence of such incidents. Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol. Thirumavalavan appreciated police for arresting the criminal and wanted the murderer to be punished. Police should take precautionary  measures to prevent such murders in public places.

Commending the police for their efficiency in arresting the murderer, CPI (M) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan demanded that all public places like bus stands and railway stations should have CCTV cameras. Tamil Maanila Congress leader G.K. Vasan demanded that police should ensure that techie Swathi’s murderer gets the most stringent punishment as per law. Such atrocious murders should be prevented in future. All steps should be taken to maintain law and order and ensure people’s safety.

The Swathi murder case was transferred from railway police to city police, which formed several special teams, headed by an Assistant Commissioner. The police had a tough time as they drew flak from the Madras high court for its handling of the case. The court had warned of suo motu intervention if there was slackness in the probe.
