Kochi: In the wake of controversy surrounding the Palarivattom flyover, the Publ-ic Works Department  will seek help of experts in reviewing Vytilla and Kundannoor flyover construction works, including the design.

“We’ve decided to take expert advice to ensure there is no deficiency in construction works carried out so far. Everything including the design will be re-checked so that even any minor flaw can be rectified at the construction stage itself,” PWD minister G. Sudhakaran told DC.

The design for the Pala-rivattom bridge was prepared by Bangalore-based Nagesh Consultancy. Inc-identally, the same firm has been consultant for the Vyttila flyover, the construction of which is in the final phase.

The minister further said the remaining construction of both the six-lane bridges along the NH 66 will be done under monitoring of a three-member expert team earlier set up by the PWD to provide technical advice and monitor repair works of the Palarivattom flyover. ‘Sreegiri Consult-ants’ too was directed to review its design for the Kundannoor flyover, which is scheduled to be opened for traffic by March 2020.

The development comes even as the Vytilla Jun-ction Vikasana Janakiya Samithis the other day moved the High Court demanding inspection of the flyover by experts of the DMRC and the IIT Madras team while alleging defects in construction.

Meanwhile, a decision on whether to open the Palarivattom flyover for traffic after carrying out the surface work repair will be taken on the basis of a report to be submitted by DMRC Principal consultant E Sreedharan who inspected the facility following a request by the PWD.
