Engineers blamed for FNCC building collapse
The final report on the FNCC building crash was submitted to the GHMC by JNTU experts.
Hyderabad: The final report on the FNCC building crash was submitted to the GHMC by JNTU experts who blamed the architect, structural engineers and PT consultants for the incident. The final report said, “The standard practice of supporting the shuttering, propping, shoring and bracing was not done at the site keeping in mind that a tall, huge span structure was being constructed. No specific construction precautions were recommended by the architects, structural engineers, and PT consultants. Non-standard procedures were followed at the site by the contractor. There was no proper supervision at the site by the site supervisor.”
Dr N.V. Ramana Rao, who headed the investigation said, "The contractor and the supervisor executing the work holds prime responsibility for the failure. The secondary responsibility lies with the architects, structural consultant and the PT executing agency for not giving logical instructions to be followed at the site. The responsibility also lies with the owner for not taking proper permission for the construction of such a huge building.
He further added, “It was found that the builder had taken up the construction of the second floor after just a week without waiting for the mandatory three-week period for completion of the first floor. The labourers were all working on the second floor when the roof caved in. This slab work was done only on July 24 night by engaging around 50 workers.“The main building of the club was also affected by the collapse. The FNCC premises were sealed by GHMC after the crash.
