Uttar Pradesh Government may frame law for ex-CMs

According to a senior official in the law department, a team of legal experts has been assigned task of studying the Supreme Court order.

Lucknow: The Akhilesh government in Uttar Pradesh is toying with the idea of bringing legislation to enable six former chief ministers to continue living in their government bungalows.

According to a senior official in the law department, a team of legal experts has been assigned the task of studying the Supreme Court order that former chief ministers could not get government accommodation beyond their tenures.

While the government is also contemplating filing a review petition in Supreme Court, challenging the Monday judgment, a section of officials feel that bringing legislation in this regard would solve the matter.

“A review petition may take several months while legislation would be passed without any problem since all political parties are involved in this issue”, said a top official.

Moreover, the official, said, three former chief ministers Mulayam Singh Yadav, Kalyan Singh and Mayawati have Z Plus category security and need to be given proper government accommodation.
