3-day coins exhibition opens in Thanjavur

THANJAVUR: A three-day numismatic exhibition organised by Cholamandalam Numismatic Society began at Makkal Mandram at Kallukulam on Nanjikottai road here on Friday.
Coins and currencies displayed at the exhibition became the cynosure of all eyes, particularly school students who visited the exhibition in large numbers.
Coins released during Sangam, Pandia, Chola, Pallava, Vijayanagara, Maratta, British, French and Danish periods are on display at the exhibition.
A thousand rupee note released by Government of India in April 1954 and which was demonetized by the Government in 1978 is on display. Unique feature of this currency is that it carries the image of the Big temple at Thanjavur.
Biggest note in the world released by Russian government which has a length of 27.2 cms and a width of 12.7 cms, and a square note released by Thailand are also on display.
Cholamandalam numismatics Society has been organising the exhibition every year.
