Bogatha falls shut for 2 days
The Moranchavagu, Jeedivagu, Jampanna Vagu and other streams in Bhupalpally and Mulugu districts are swollen.
WARANGAL: Several rivers and streams in undivided Warangal district are in spate due to incessant rains in the past week. Rivers and tanks that were dry due to the late onset of the monsoon have begun overflowing.
On Friday, the Cheekupalle stream in Vajedu in Mulugu district was full and the forest department closed the Bogatha waterfall to tourists for two days. Being a weekend, a large number of tourists were expected to visit the waterfall.
The Moranchavagu, Jeedivagu, Jampanna Vagu and other streams in Bhupalpally and Mulugu districts are swollen.
The Jampanna Vagu at Medaram shrine has inundated the twin bridges. Several interior villages in the Agency areas are cut off due to streams overflowing onto the roads. Palimela mandal in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district is completely cut off. Electricity supply has been disrupted.
The Kaleshwaram project is receiving flood water due to heavy inflows into the Godavari and Pranahita rivers. The Godavari was running at 8.1 metres at Kaleshwaram and 7.6 metres at the Ramannagudem Pushkar Ghat, and rising fast.
Officials opened 65 gates at the Medigadda barrage to allow flood water to flow downstream. The water level in Annaram barrage is nearing full capacity. Pump houses have stopped pumping water.
No coal has been mined at Kakatiya Khani for four days. The Singareni Collieries has incurred an estimated loss of Rs 10 crore in the past week.
Several roads in Warangal were submerged due to the continuous rains. Overflowing drainage lines inundated the roads. Water stagnation at Mulugu road junction has caused obstruction to traffic. The fire department went into action and bailed out the stagnant water.
