Kalaburagi: Basavasagar waters may submerge three bridges
With the Kauloor bridge just two feet away from being submerged, the authorities have sounded a red alert.
Kalaburagi: Three major bridges across the Krishna in Yadgir district are facing the threat of submergence due to heavy discharge of water from the Basavasagar Reservoir at Narayanapura, which is downstream of the Almatti Reservoir.
According to official sources, Kauloor, Googallu and Neelakantarayanagadde bridges in Yadgir district are likely to be submerged any time as there is heavy discharge of water in the last couple of days.
With the Kauloor bridge just two feet away from being submerged, the authorities have sounded a red alert. As a precautionary measure, the Yadgir district administration has deployed police personnel on these bridges. Already the islands of Karakalagaddi, Mydaragaddi and Omkammanagaddi in Lingasugur taluk of Raichur district have been cut off since Thursday due to the rising waters of the Krishna. According to sources, two families live in Karakalagaddi, five in Myadaragaddi and one in Omkammanagaddi . These families do not wish to relocate as they don't want to abandon their fertile land, the authorities added. The flood water is also said to have entered adjoining fields causing soil erosion affecting standing crops.
The river is flowing at the danger level at Huvinahadagali bridge.
