Decongest Bengaluru roads, companies told

BENGALURU: Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Thursday said companies from Israel, Singapore, China among others have been invited to participate in Expression of Interest (EoI) for global tender and come out with suggestions on ways to decongest Bengaluru city roads. The EoI has been invited on July 14 and the last date for participation is August 14.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi after meeting Union Minister for Road Transport and National Highways Nitin Gadkari, Shivakumar said that being renowned at the international level, Bengaluru city traffic problems have caught the attention while similar traffic congestion problems are in New Delhi, Mumbai among other major cities of the country.

“We are getting ready for a plan to decongest Bengaluru city and if city roads are decongested then the image of Bengaluru city would be a different picture,” he said.

Regarding his meeting with Nitin Gadkari, Shivakumar responded positively to his requests on ways to decongest Bengaluru city roads and said that Gadkari has asked to prepare a comprehensive plan be it construction of tunnels, flyovers or any other models to ease traffic congestion in Bengaluru city.

During the meeting with Gadkari, Shivakumar said to have discussed with the Union Minister over four national highways connecting Bengaluru city and the major national highways resulting in heavy influx of vehicles leading to traffic snarls. He said that steps have to be initiated by the officials concerned of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on the four national highways connecting Bengaluru city and Gadkari responded positively to the pleas.
