Hyderabad: Stating that the courage displayed by the Greyhounds forces was proof of their patriotism, Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Friday praised the role of the unit in controlling Maoism.

The Union minister, during his Hyderabad tour, visited the Greyhounds’ headquarters at Premavatipet near Gandipet and interacted with senior IPS officials and staff.

Speaking at a meeting organised in connection with his visit, Mr Singh said, “Elements like terrorists and Maoists can do nothing to the country as long as forces like Greyhounds are protecting us. All the states know about the capability of Greyhounds in controlling Maoism,” he said.

TS home minister Nayini Narsimha Reddy said that the state government has provided the required infrastructure, as well as a free hand to the police department. DGP Anurag Sharma, Hyderabad police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy, other senior officials and district SPs took part in the programme. Earlier, Mr Singh paid respects at the Martyrs’ Memorial by laying a wreath and then proceeded to inaugurate the newly-constructed Advanced Course Mess in the NPA campus.
