Bengaluru: At a function organised by the BBMP to commemorate the 148th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Monday, Bengaluru Mayor Sampath Raj committed a blunder.

After garlanding the Gandhi statue at M.G. Road, Mr Raj while delivering his speech said the Palike was commemorating the 148th death anniversary of the Mahatma. What completely slipped out of his mind was that it was the birth anniversary of Gandhi.

While the people at the event were baffled, he continued with his speech, saying, “People of all faiths look up to Mahatma. Every year, schoolchildren sing songs on the occasion.”
