Accident victim raises awareness
He now cycles with his artificial leg to make people aware.
Hyderabad: It was all a regular day in the first week of December, 2013 for Mr Dharmana Shanmukha. After finishing his breakfast he was going to his office, on his two-wheeler when a lorry came on the wrong side at Nizampet, Kukatpally and hit him resulting in the amputation of his right leg. Though residents crowded around, none came either to help or call an ambulance for more than 20 minutes. Later on, the victim went to the nearby Remedy hospital in Kukatpally himself in an auto. As there was a huge loss of blood, he had to be given nearly three units of blood but his leg could not be saved.
“It's a difficult story to recall even now. Now I work on increasing road safety awareness among people. Luckily I was conscious and was able to say what my blood group was but there are many accidents, where time plays a crucial role and doctors have to do tests and confirm the blood group.” He now cycles with his artificial leg to make people aware. He created a record in December, 2017 by cycling for 700 kilometers in five days in nine districts of northern Telangana with the aim to motivate people to follow rules.
