Eight-day Karantha Rangotsava begins, 270 new talents to stage 12 plays
Artistes of Rangayana's Bharathiya Ranga Shikshana Kendra will stage a play-Chandrahaasa' on October 14.
Mysuru: As a prelude to the nine-day theatre fest, ‘Navarathri Rangotsava’ which will be hosted by Rangayana during the Dasara festivities, an eight-day theatre fest, ‘BV Karantha Yuvajana College Rangotsava’ began at the Rangayana premises on Tuesday. As many as 270 new talents, who are students from various colleges are staging 12 plays at the fest being held at Vanaranga amphitheatre at Rangayana. They were trained by 12 directors at a theatre workshop held from August 27 to September 30.
A team of St Joseph first grade college staged ‘Roopanthara’ on Tuesday evening. Students of different colleges will stage ‘Bahumukhi’ on October 3, ‘Jogathikallu’ on October 4, ‘Megha Mareya Chandira’ on October 5, ‘Maari Kaadu’ on October 6, ‘Mallammana Mane Hotlu’ on October 7 and ‘Jokumaaraswamy’ on October 8. During Navarathri Rangotsava, senior artists of Rangayana will be staging a play-‘Checkmate’ on October 10 while a stage play,‘Puntila’ will be staged on October 16 and a puppet show on October 18.
Artistes of Rangayana’s Bharathiya Ranga Shikshana Kendra will stage a play-‘Chandrahaasa’ on October 14. A team of Amritha Vidyapeetam will stage ‘Idi Thaayi’ on October 11 and a team of NIE college will stage ‘Malaala Alla’ on October 12. A team of Maharaja’s college is staging ‘Agni Maththu Male’ on October 13, a team of PU College of Siddarthanagar will stage ‘Soruthihudu Sambanda’ on October 15 and a team of JSS Degree College, Ooty Road, will stage ‘Ili Madake’ on October 17.
‘Amoortha Sambrama,’ an expo of paintings of Chandrakantha Kusanooru and an expo of old gramaphones and record plates will be hosted during Navarathri Rangotsava at Rangayana. Also nine achievers will be felicitated, they include Kotresha Hiremat(education), Moorthy Deraaje (children’s theatre), Kavitha Umashankar Mishra (agriculture), Auto Raja, GK Rathnakar, Rajamma (social service), Chandramma Gola (social service and environment protection), Shekh Habeeb Ul Hak (special achievement), B.S. Manjulamma (professional theatre).
