Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday reserved orders on the long-standing tussle between the Telugu states over payment of electricity dues: The AP government has claimed around Rs 7,000 crores from Telangana for the supply of the power for three years.

The dispute evolved with the Centre’s directions in 2022 to the Telangana power utilities to pay Rs 3441.78 crore towards the principal amount and Rs 3,315.14 crores as late payment surcharge to AP for the power supplied from June, 2014, (the Appointed Day) to June 19, 2017, as per the AP Reorganization Act.

The Telangana power utilities argued that AP owed them Rs 20,000 crore under various heads. It claimed that the amount should be paid first.

The Telangana state government and power utilities filed two petitions before the High Court in 2022, which restrained the Centre from taking take any coercive steps.
