Hyderabad: At rail crossings, traffic stuck for many hours

A senior official in SCR said that the delay was also because the GHMC had released its share of money for the projects.

Hyderabad: Motorists complain that their travel time is increasing due to traffic jams at railway bridges and halts at level crossings waiting for trains to pass.

“Traffic jams are a daily affair at the rail bridges at Ranigunj and Chaderghat because the number of vents (passages) have not been increased in proportion to the increase in traffic,” said Mr M. Chandra Mouli, a motorist.

Level crossings are another problem. “Vehicular traffic has increased by leaps and bounds from Safilguda, Malkajgiri and other surrounding circles towards Secunderabad and Hitec City. Trains do not arrive on time so there is no knowing when the railway gate will be closed at level crossings. We get stuck at Safilguda rail crossing for 15 to 20 minutes. How many more years will the government take to construct brid-ges,” asked Ms Sushmitha Rao, a motorist.

A senior official in SCR said that the delay was also because the GHMC had released its share of money for the projects.

Asked about the delay, GHMC superintending engineer Ashwini Kumar said that while delay in releasing funds was one of the reasons, the main problem was land acquisition.
