Poll code hits GHMC, fewer files cleared

Hyderabad: The number of files processed by GHMC in the month of October as compared to September dropped by 22 per cent. As per the data provided using the e-office portal of GHMC, 28000 files were moved in October while 36000 were done in September. Citizens and GHMC officials have repeatedly claimed that as the civic body officials are busy in election duty, the works have come to a halt. However, a senior GHMC official despising the claims of officials being busy said that many files have been stopped deliberately as model code of conduct has come into force. GHMC official said, “We cannot sanction any new work and we cannot take up naew activity. Every Month we take up lot of new work which runs into crores which we had  to stop. We can have revenue expenditure but cannot have capital expenditure as the election code has put restriction on it”.

Official further claimed that the difference of 8000 is anticipated and is only due to not taking up new work. Other regular activities like payments, salaries and maintenance are going on as expected. Official said, ”The new civil works which cannot be taken are not being taken. As it spoken around, many of the people are busy with elections.”
