Thiruvananthapuram: Sports quota to benefit CBSE, ICSE as well
The Kerala State Sports Council had conducted CBSE and ICSE streams sports activities last year also.
Thiruvananthapuram: The state government will change its sports quota admission policy so that the ICSE and CBSE students also will benefit from it.
Ms Indira Rajan, general secretary, Kerala State CBSE School Managem-ent Association, told Dec-can Chronicle that the Kerala state central school sports meet will be held this year also with more items under the sports category and introducing items under games also.
This was an initiative of the Kerala State Sports Council for the students of Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, CBSE and ICSE.
This year, all the winners under the respective category will be given weightage for admissions under sports quota and for similar other facilities. This was a long-pending demand of central syllabus schools, said Ms Rajan.
There will be competitions in the following athletics events: Under 14 (girls and boys) -100 metres, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 4x100m relay; Under 17-100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, shot put, long jump, high jump, discuss throw, 4x l00m relay; Under 19-100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, shot put, long jump, high jump, discuss throw, triple jump, 4 x 100m relay, 4 x 400m relay.
Last year, only athletics events were conducted. This year, games like basketball, shuttle badminton and football (boys) have been included. However, there will be only one category of Under-19 for all these games.
The Kerala State Sports Council had conducted CBSE and ICSE streams sports activities last year also. However, no weightage was given to winners for various courses.
