APJ Technological University yet to identify site for headquarters
There are 152 engineering colleges affiliated with the university.
Thiruvananthapuram: APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University formed to affiliate technical education institutions has failed to identify a site for its headquarters even after two years.
Though Vilappilsala was preferred earlier, there was an alleged attempt to shift it to Thrissur. However, Section 3 (6) of the KTU Act stipulates that it should be in Thiruvananthapuram. Hence, they dropped the idea of taking it outside the capital.
The university should have a campus with at least five departments to get UGC funding, sources said. They have also to comply with the directives of the AICTE. There are 152 engineering colleges affiliated with the university.
Though the previous UDF government had identified 50 acres of land belonging to the Kerala University, it had to be dropped even after getting the Syndicate of the University ratified the proposal, following opposition.
A committee headed by registrar G. P. Padmakumar and comprising deputy secretary M. G. Renjith Kumar and senior director M. Sherif appointed to pick up a suitable place for the campus could not finalise a site yet, sources said.
