Hyderabad: The TS government will bring in a new Act to check proliferation of study centres from other states in Hyderabad city and other parts of the state without permission.
Study centres of other universities need permission of the University Grants Commission and the state government, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari told the Legislative Council on Tuesday.
Replying to a question raised by P. Sudhakar Reddy (Congress) and P. Ravinder (TRS), the minister admitted that according to UGC norms, study centres in the name of affiliated institutions of other state universities cannot conduct courses in other states.
“TSCHE, Hyderabad, is examining the cases of such study centres offering BSc Agriculture, MBA and other courses in the state. They have created awareness among students. The competent authority to take action in such cases is the UGC. The state government shall pursue necessary action,” Mr Srihari said.
He added, “We already brought the issue to the notice of UGC.” Mr Sudhakar Reddy said such study centres are rampant in Hyderabad, Warangal and other districts.
“They charge Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh for courses like BSc agriculture, MBA and others. Agra-based Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, Rajasthan’s Singhania University, JS university of Firozabad are offering such courses. They are not recognised by our state. Students will put to great loss,” he said.
