BMTC bus falls off Varthur Bridge, 35 escape with minor injuries
The driver noticed a speeding lorry coming from the opposite direction.
BENGALURU: Around 35 passengers had a narrow escape when a BMTC bus they were travelling in fell off a bridge in Varthur village in Tavarekere police limits of Ramanagar district on Friday morning.
The police said the bus that was heading from Nelamangala to Kengeri was passing on the Varthur bridge over Arkavathi river around 10 am. The driver noticed a speeding lorry coming from the opposite direction.
Trying to avoid the lorry, he swerved to his left. Still, the bus brushed against the lorry and bus driver lost control. The bus then crashed into the railing and plunged to the ground.
“All the 35 passengers in the bus luckily escaped with minor injuries. Only four sustained fractures and they are undergoing treatment at a hospital,” the Tavarekere police, who have registered a case, said.
