Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has stayed the appointment of assistant professors in various universities in AP.

Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao granted the interim stay while dealing with a batch of petitions by SC and ST Teachers’ Association of JNTU secretary M. Ramesh and others challenging 6 per cent reservation for STs in the recruitment contrary to rule prescribing 7.5 per cent reservation for STs.

The petitioners submitted that the state government had prescribed the 6 per cent reservations based on State Subordinate Service Rules contrary to GO 117 of 1983 for the recruitment of assistant professors in Andhra University, Sri Venkateswara University, JNTU, Kakinada University and Ananthapur University.
