Warangal: VVIPs throng Medaram for darshan on last day

The historic Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara concluded on Saturday with the tribal deities making vana pravesham on Saturday evening.

Warangal: The historic Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara concluded on Saturday with the tribal deities making vana pravesham on Saturday evening.

Sammakka was taken to Chilukalagutta with drum beats and dances by priest Kokkera Krishnaiah. Saralamma was taken to Kannepalli village by priest Kaka Sariah. Pagiddaraju went to Poonugondlu village and Govindaraju returned to Kondai village. With this, the four-day tribal ritual came to a close. 

In charge collector R.V. Karnan said that about 1.25 crore devotees visited Medaram during the jatara. According to him, on Friday and Saturday alone 45 lakh devotees had the darshan. 

“We were successful in conducting a clean, green and safe Jatara,” he said. On the final day of the Jatara, Medaram saw arrival of several prominent personalities. 

Chief secretary S.K Joshi, endowments commissioner N. Shiv Shankar, tourism senior officer B. Venkatesham, former DGP and state government advisor Anurag Sharma and others offered prayers at the jatara.

Former union minister and MP Bandaru Dattatreya, TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy, former minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah and , MLAs G. Kishan Reddy and K. Laxman offered prayers on Saturday. There was a huge rush at the bus station with the devotees making their way back home.
