Hyderabad: There is tough competition for the posts of chairman and members of the Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC). Forty-one applications were received for three vacant posts in the Commission.
With the retirement of chairman Ismail Ali Khan three weeks ago and of the two members of TSERC in August 2016 and April 2018, the government notified the vacancies on December 28 last. Soon after the notification was issued, many senior officials from power transmission and distribution companies applied for the posts. According to sources, retired civil servants are also in the race.
The government has appointed a selection committee chaired by retired High Court judge Justice V. Bhaskara Rao. The Chief Secretary and chairman of the Central Electricity Authority are the other members.
The TSERC should have three members including the chairman and they should be one each from legal, administration and technical departments.
The selection will be done under the provisions of the Electricity Act 2003. The committee will select two candidates for each post and the state government will make the final choice. An official on condition of anonymity said, “There are many applications from officials working in the power department. The competition is heavy this time. The applications received are now with the Special Chief Secretary and will be sent to the selection committee soon.”
