Manigadan's friends said he had been depressed for the past few days.
CHENNAI: A 26-year-old police constable belonging to the Armed Reserve Battalion was found dead by his colleagues in the early hours of Sunday after he shot himself in the head, for reasons that are still unknown. The man ended his life on his birthday.
The deceased G Manigandan, from Pallipattu in Tiruvallur district, was attached to the Armed Reserve Police wing in the city. He was stationed at the Kilpauk armed reserve headquarters where he was found by his colleagues at 5.30 am on Sunday with a bullet wound in the head. His service rifle was found next to him.
Police said no one heard the gun being fired.”We only came to know about it after one of his fellow constables went to look for him and found him lying in a pool of blood," a police officer said.
Other personnel on duty rushed him to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Manigadan's friends said he had been depressed for the past few days.
“It was a strange incident as he died on his birthday. He was born on February 3, 1993 and was 26 years old when he committed suicide," his friend said.
“We are investigating the incident. It appears to be a case of suicide, however, he did not leave any suicide note," a senior police officer said.
