Faster security check-ins at KIA
While in 2013 the airport had projected an annual growth rate of 32 per cent, but it is growing at close to 40 plus per cent.
Bengaluru: Flying out of the city airport will soon be easier for travellers as the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) is introducing a new system to speed up the security check-in process.
BIAL claims the new technology smart security line process, which it is in the process of implementation, will be help cut average check-in time to 15 seconds, from the current 90 seconds. With this innovation they hope to bring down long queues.
"At KIA airport space has become a premium. The number of flyers are growing much faster than projected. But infrastructure takes time to be built. And time is not something that any Indian airport has in their hands with this kind of growth,” a senior officer at BIAL told Deccan Chronicle.
"This is much needed in a competitive world. Airports would have to fight to make themselves attractive to airlines. Faster and hassle-free check-in is the major component which increases the value of an airport for flyers, it also means more business for the airlines and the airports as more passengers can be processed faster," another senior BIAL official said.
While in 2013 the airport had projected an annual growth rate of 32 per cent, but it is growing at close to 40 plus per cent.
In 2008, 90 lakh passengers travelled from the airport and now it has reached to 2.5 crores per annum. Experts say the number may reach 8 crores by 2028.
Moreover by 2020, the growing demand for air travel is expected to create a 15 per cent deficit of the needed space to cater to travel, according to the Airport Council International (ACI).
“We used to wait for long time in the queue, but with this new system of smart security line it has become easier and faster for us finish the boarding process and get through," said Puneeth P., a regular commuter.
