Madurai men take most prizes at Tirupur jallikattu
Individual winners including bull tamers and bull owners also received a variety of prizes at the event.
TIRUPUR: A jallikattu (bull-taming) event was organised for the second year in Tirupur on Sunday, in which 500 bulls and more than 550 bull-tamers took part.
State minister for Animal Husbandry Udumalai K Radhakrishnan flagged off the event in the Alagumalai area near Tirupur in the presence of district collector K S Palanisamy and district SP Kayalvizhi.
About 500 bulls were brought to the venue by the owners from Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Coimbatore, Avaniyapuram, Palamedu and various places. More than 550 bull-tamers took part in the daylong event and won prizes.
According to officials, three bull owners - Sarathi from Salem, Kari from Madurai and Prem from Madurai received the awards for the best bulls and were given motorbikes.
Similarly, four bull-tamers - Mettupatti Karthik from Madurai, Karupayurani Karthik from Madurai, Sakthivel from Madurai and Karthikumar from Natham were selected as best performers, since they tamed the highest number of bulls.
