Chennai: DMDK chief Vijayakanth on Thursday maintained he had not yet decided on any alliance for the coming state elections.

Seeking to scotch the reports that he had stuck a poll pact with the DMK for 59 seats, he asked his party cadres not to take seriously media speculations about the party alliance.

“I am not in alliance with anybody. Don’t try to confuse by saying alliance. I did not take any money. I was told there was something abuzz in the last two days…I assure you I will inform the cadres and media if I decide on alliance,” Mr Vijayakanth told his cadres after inaugurating schemes at Rishivandiyam (Villupuram district) that were developed under his constituency development fund.

Vijayakanth’s rebuttal comes in the wake of media reports that he had in principle agreed for an alliance with the DMK if he got 59 seats.

“I know how to guide my party. Don't believe those who are making charges that I took money for alliance. I am not a person who runs behind money. I have seen enough of money and popularity,” he said.

Recalling that he had waded through the flood waters to see the victims of the rain-floods in December, Vijayakanth said, “I saw a picture on WhatsApp showing a person visiting the flood-affected places wearing pant and shoes”.

He also questioned the AIADMK government decision to release the seven prisoners in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case “just at this election time”.

The AIADMK had come to power “due to the MGR charisma and the Rajiv Gandhi assassination sympathy, but now they are releasing these
seven people”, the DMDK chief said.
