Chennai: Star wars begin over Nadigar Sangam funds
Accounts properly audited, says Sarath.
CHENNAI: Nadigar Sangam Charitable Trust, on Thursday, filed a complaint with Chennai police commissionerate against three former trustees - former president R. Sarath Kumar, secretary Radha Ravi and treasurer Vagai Chandrashekar, alleging misappropriation and misfeasance of association funds.
Within a few hours, Sarath Kumar who was accepting applications from party candidates at his office rushed to the commissionerate, to prefer a counter-complaint.
Poochi Murugan along with his advocate Krishna, filed a complaint alleging misuse of around Rs 1.65 crore of the trust funds from 2009. The complaint was based on the report of the special auditor and as per the SIAA’s executive decision.
Vishal, association secretary and a trustee, had affixed his signature.
Sarath Kumar and his partymen met CCB(Central Crime Branch) DCP S. Jayakumar around 3 pm.
During the meeting, Sarath Kumar explained that he was getting calls about alleged misappropriation to the tune of crores when he was busy with electioneering.
Sarath Kumar also said he was traumatised by the baseless complaint, and demanded action against the complainant, besides requesting a copy of the complaint.
Talking to mediapersons later, Sarath Kumar observed that accounts were properly audited and are available with the auditor approved and appointed by the trust. On the appointment of special auditor, he said it has to be ratified by the general body.
“Instead of filing a complaint on an issue which has no prima-facie, they can issue notices from the trust seeking explanation. I presume there could be some political will in spreading such canards against me”, Sarath Kumar said.
