KOTTAYAM: A  consortium of  farmers’ unions in the state  plans to field a few candidates in the Assembly elections.  The farmers’ organisations  will seek  the support of the LDF  and   fight in places where  farmers face serious issues.

“We will seek the support of the LDF since the UDF has not  addressed  our
concerns,”  said Mr V.C. Sebastian, secretary-general of the Indian Farmers’ Movement (INFARM). He claimed that it had the backing of the Church.

The LDF  confirmed that the  farmers’ movement had  submitted to it a  list of  candidates. “The  LDF  is yet to take a decision on this,”  Mr Skaria Thomas, Kerala Congress (anti-merger group) chairman  and a constituent of the LDF told Deccan Chronicle.
