Hyderabad: The Southern discom will spent '240 crore to strengthen the distribution system to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the city in summer. Southern discom chairman and managing director Raghuma Reddy said the power consumption touched 46.38 million units on Thursday.

He said 697 MU of load relief was taken in 2013-14 when the demand went up to 15,152 MU. It fell to 274 MU in 2014-15 when unrestricted demand was pegged at 15,396. “There has been no power cut or load relief due to shortage of power or a single power holiday for industry in the current financial year,” he said.

He said  steps were being taken to strengthen infrastructure to provide nine-hour three-phase day-time supply to the agriculture sector. He said the discom was gearing up to handle the Water Grid.
