JD(S) sees scam in turf club licence renewal
The original lease of the Turf Club land, which belongs to the PWD, expired in 2006.
Bengaluru: Even before the watch controversy surrounding CM Siddaramaiah could settle down, fresh allegations have been made that his son Rakesh demanded 20 memberships for renewal of the license of Mysuru Turf Club.
JD(S) member from KR Nagar in Mysuru, Mr Sa Ra Mahesh, who has been raking up Turf Club issues in the last one year, leveled the allegations in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday. Participating in the motion to thanks the Governor's address, Mr Mahesh said that efforts were made to renew the license of Mysuru Turf Club for a nominal price after it expired in March 2016.
The original lease of the Turf Club land, which belongs to the PWD, expired in 2006. However, it was further extended for 10 years for 2% of its annual profit. A report by IAS officer Mr Harsh Gupta estimated the cost of the property at Rs 32 crore.
He said that all efforts were being made to get the lease renewed for another term and the Turf Club was knocking every door. The news is that the Chief Minister's son had sought 20 memberships for getting the renewal done for Rs 5 crore, he said.
