The recommendation of the BJP core committee was okayed by the RSS on Thursday.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior BJP leader O. Rajagopal would contest from Nemom Assembly constituency while BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan would seek election from Vattiyoorkavu. The recommendation of the BJP core committee meeting held at Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday was okayed by the RSS State leadership at Palakkad on Thursday.
Earlier it was decided that Mr Rajasekharan would contest from Nemom and Mr Rajagopal from Vattiyoorkavu. But Mr Rajagopal had disapproved of the idea and had decided not to contest this time around much to the chagrin of both the State BJP and RSS leaderships.
The RSS has also approved the candidature of other senior BJP leaders and former state presidents V. Muraleedharan (Kazhakoottam), P. S. Sreedharan Pillai (Chengannur), K. P. Krishnadas (Kattakada) and C. K. Padmanabhan (Kunnamanagalam). BJP general secretaries Sobha Surendran and M. T. Ramesh would contest from Palakkad and Kozhikode North, respectively. Another general secretary K. Surendran is likely to contest either from Kasargod or Manjeshwaram which would be finalized later. Other senior leaders like K. P. Sreesan and P. M. Velayudhan will contest from Beypore and Mavelikara, respectively.
Meanwhile, actor Suresh Gopi has decided not to contest from Thiruvananthapuram Assembly seat as he is interested in contesting the next Lok Sabha elections. There are reports that film directors Major Ravi and Rajasenan are eyeing the Thiruvananthapuram seat.
