Hyderabad: About 8,000 two-wheeler riders were booked on Thursday for not wearing helmets, even as a large number of motorists continued to ignore the rule.

“The report from various points in the city is that many people are riding two-wheelers without wearing helmets. They will gradually fall in line,” said DCP Traffic (Hyderabad) A.V. Ranganath. He added that the police would continue the drive to implement the helmet rule.

Vinod Kumar of Indian Federation of Road Safety said stricter enforcement would definitely have an impact on motorists. If violators are held back for three to four hours for counselling for their first offence, they think twice before repeating it, he said.
