Chennai Corporation sketches plan with Germans for flood alleviation
The joint venture project will be implemented with state funds and a soft loan from a German based KFW bank.
Chennai: Chennai corporation commissioner D. Karthikeyan on Friday conducted a high-level meeting with German technical consultants to expedite the proposed flood alleviation project for Chennai. According to corporation sources, Chennai has been divided into three flood zones, Cooum, Adyar and Kovalam basin and to prevent flooding a pilot project at a cost of Rs 4034 crore had been planned and a technical consultant also appointed.
The joint venture project will be implemented with state funds and a soft loan from a German based KFW bank is also to be provided to a tune of Rs 1243 crore. German technical consultants Michalel Bringhman and Deepak Gajurel called on the corporation commissioner to discuss about the project. Commissioner urged the consultants to conduct field inspections and hold discussions with storm water department engineers to ensure the early commencement of the project. Tenders for the project is scheduled in April, corporation sources said.
